ECG & Echocardiography

The two tests every heart deserves.

An ECG records the heart's electrical rhythm; an echocardiogram uses ultrasound to image its structure and pumping function. Together they form the cornerstone of cardiology — fast, painless, radiation-free, and almost always read the same day by a board-certified cardiologist.

  • Palpitations, chest discomfort or unexplained shortness of breath
  • Newly diagnosed hypertension or atrial fibrillation
  • Murmur heard by your primary care doctor
  • Family history of cardiomyopathy or sudden cardiac death
  • Pre-operative cardiac screening
Conditions we treat

Common reasons patients are referred

  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart failure (HFrEF and HFpEF)
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Cardiomyopathies
  • Pericardial disease
  • Pulmonary hypertension
What we offer

Procedures and assessments

A focused, high-volume set of procedures — performed often and performed well, by the same senior team every time.

12-lead resting ECG

A 5-minute tracing — your heart's electrical fingerprint.

Transthoracic echocardiogram

Ultrasound assessment of chambers, valves, pericardium and ejection fraction.

Strain (speckle-tracking) imaging

Detects subtle dysfunction long before standard measurements change — especially valuable in cardio-oncology.

Bubble study (contrast echo)

Saline-contrast injection to look for intracardiac shunts such as a PFO.

Stress echocardiography

Echo before and immediately after exercise or pharmacological stress, to uncover hidden ischemia.

Technology

The tools we use, by name

The equipment behind this specific service — chosen because precise tools support precise decisions.

  • Philips EPIQ CVx 4D echo

Premium cardiac ultrasound with auto-strain — earliest detection of subtle dysfunction.

  • GE MAC 2000 / MAC 5500 HD ECG

Hospital-grade 12-lead with vendor-neutral storage in your record.

  • Definity contrast-echo agent

For poorly imaged left ventricles and bubble (shunt) studies.

  • Strain-rate & 3D LV quantification

Reproducible ejection fraction and global longitudinal strain at every visit.

Your journey

From first call to follow-through

1

Check-in

Five minutes at reception, a quick history review with the technologist.

2

Imaging

ECG (5 minutes) and echo (25–30 minutes) — you'll lie on your left side; gentle pressure, no needles.

3

Same-day results

Your cardiologist reviews the study and explains the findings before you leave.

How to prepare

  • Eat and drink normally — no fasting required.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit; avoid moisturisers and oils on the chest.
  • Bring previous ECGs and echo reports for direct comparison.
  • If you're on cardiac medication, take it as usual.
  • Leave 60 minutes free even though the scan itself is shorter.

Recovery & aftercare

  • Same-day report

Written interpretation by a cardiologist, shared with you and your GP.

  • Annotated images on USB

Take your study with you for any second opinion, anywhere in the world.

  • Repeat interval set

If serial scans are needed (e.g. valve disease), we book the next one before you leave.

"Every other clinic made me wait two weeks for the report. Here the cardiologist sat me down and explained it the same hour."

FAQs

Questions patients ask us

If yours isn't here, ask our team — we love a good question.

Do I need a referral?+

No. You can book directly and we'll send results to your primary doctor with your permission.

Is the echo safe in pregnancy?+

Completely. It uses sound waves, not radiation.

How should I prepare?+

Eat normally, wear a two-piece outfit, and avoid heavy lotions on the chest that day.

Why CAVA

Care that is precise — and personal

The same standards apply to every service we offer.

  • Board-certified specialists

Every study is read and every procedure performed by a fellowship-trained cardiologist or vascular surgeon — never an outsourced reader.

  • Same-day diagnostics

ECG, echo and duplex ultrasound on-site, with results explained in plain language before you leave the clinic.

  • Minimally invasive first

We default to wrist access, local anaesthesia and outpatient pathways — so most patients are home the same day.

  • Continuity of care

One named cardiologist follows you from first visit through recovery. No revolving door, no repeated histories.
